Founded by Silvino Grandis in 1965, Grandis is an Italian manufacturer from Verona which still produces high-end racing bicycles. Everything started in 1930, when Silvino built his first frame, though he started selling bicycles under his name not earlier than 35 years later. Ever since then, his bicycles have been admired by cyclists and collectors around the globe. p>
In the 1990s, GRANDIS used both Columbus "MAX" pipe sets as well as a Columbus "EL" pipe set that was cold-formed specifically for GRANDIS. In contrast to the original MAX pipe set, this "EL" ("extra light") pipe set was only cross-ovalized in two places: At the end of the down tube to the bottom bracket and at the end of the top tube to the seat tube socket. However, the top and down tubes on the head tube were not oval, but round. In addition, the top and bottom tubes were slightly widened in the middle (oversized), like a cigar shape. In contrast to this "OverMAX" tube set made specifically for GRANDIS, the normal Columbus "MAX" tube set was also vertically ovalized at the top and down tube ends towards the head tube and was accessible to all frame builders. The frame we offer here consists of an "OverMAX" tube set based on a Columbus "EL" tube set, with round tubes that have been cross-ovalized at the bottom bracket and the seat tube socket exclusively for GRANDIS.
